I only know of one photograph of Maynard Dixon and Dorothea Lange together, and it was taken in 1920, shortly after they were married. As I was conducting research for my film, Maynard Dixon Art and Spirit, I visited their sons, Daniel and John, on many occasions. They were kind enough to share all of their personal family photographs, Dixon's unpublished short stories, and their many letters. Both Dixon and Lange were prolific letter writers and had distinctive and artistic penmanship. Both were strong personalities and fiercely opinionated. Daniel Dixon spoke to me one afternoon about his parent's differences.
